Alfred 'Pops' Rosser

When I came out of the alley just behind the Horseshoe Cafe in Bellingham,WA little did I know I was in for some cold fingers and one heck of a story.

Alfred was born in Germany back in 1926. That year the world lost Claude Monet, met Winnie the Pooh and first experienced Ben Hur on screen(Yes, the Charlie Heston one was a remake).

Alfred would leave Germany at age 5 for the states only to return at age 9 to live with his uncle. 1940 required all youth in Germany to register to be part of the Hitlerjugend or Hitler Youth. Young kids, both boys and girls, were trained to be soldiers and carry out various forms of tactics against their enemies. Alfred was no exception and was indoctrinated into the HJ.
Growing up Alfred was taught many languages and could speak up to five, English and Russian being just two of them. Alfred tells of being assigned to a Russian scientist as his assistant in order to get an important formula he was working from him and was under orders to kill him once he did. The scientist had finished his work and Alfred was about to kill him when the scientist took out a gun and ask Alfred to kill him. Now this scientist was a Messianic Jew(A Jew that believes in Jesus Christ). Instead of killing him Alfred ended up accepting Christ at this encounter, transporting the scientist to Israel and reporting to his commanders that the job was done.

After this Alfred trails off and talks of being in the Korean,Vietnam and first Gulf war. He has a mother who is 111 years old and still drives! My hands were freezing at this point almost completly white. I shook his hand and was on my way. Believe it or not, take it or leave it, this was his story and I was glad to have met him.
